Tracking your organizational outcomes and nursing professional development (NPD) value has never been easier!
The 2021 ANPD Organizational Value of Nursing Professional Development Study demonstrated many positive relationships between NPD full-time equivalents (FTEs) and organizational outcomes (Harper et al., 2022a; 2022b). Unfortunately, many participants in the study did not include their outcome data, possibly because taking time to collect the data was difficult during the pandemic. As a result, we’ve developed a worksheet that can help you stay up to date with your organizational outcomes: NPD by the Numbers.
The NPD by the Numbers worksheet provides one document for recording the organizational outcomes most easily influenced by NPD initiatives: RN turnover, certification, newly licensed nurse retention, several patient satisfaction items from the Healthcare Consumer Assessment of Hospital Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) publicly reported data, and Hospital Compare publicly reported data related to organizational patient care outcomes. The worksheet provides links to the publicly reported data for your convenience. Promote buy-in and commitment by sharing the responsibility for completion of the worksheet with NPD team members and by routinely discussing organizational outcomes at NPD staff meetings.
Once completed, the NPD by the Numbers worksheet serves as a needs assessment that can indicate areas needing NPD assessment and focus. By updating the worksheet on a quarterly basis, you can track the outcomes of your initiatives. Then, you can translate these outcomes to financial benefits using the ANPD Known Costs Table.
Make sure you can communicate your NPD department’s organizational impact at any time. Download and complete the NPD by the Numbers worksheet today!
