In this episode of the NPD Forecast Podcast, Jose Arnold Tariga, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, NPD-BC, NE-BC, CPHQ, FFNMRCSI, an experienced internationally educated NPD practitioner, discusses how NPD practitioners can support internationally educated nurses (IENs) working in U.S. healthcare systems. Hosts Dr. Stephanie Zidek and Dr. Naomi Fox converse with him about his organization, InsightGlobal Health, whose program Grit Academy educates nurses prior to their journeys abroad.

Some of the topics they discuss include:

  • Identifying and addressing potential differences in knowledge and skills related to U.S. healthcare practices, technology, and everyday life.
  • Dr. Tariga's use of simulation technology to prepare IENs for U.S. healthcare systems.
  • The value of structured mentorship programs in integrating internationally educated nurses.

Jose Arnold Tariga, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, NPD-BC, NE-BC, CPHQ, FFNMRCSI Director of Clinical Education and Development, InsightGlobal Health

Dr. Jose Arnold Tariga is an internationally educated nurse with over 16 years of experience in clinical and educational settings across the globe. He recently completed a post-doctoral certificate in medical teaching from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Tariga is a certified nurse educator, nursing professional development specialist, and nurse executive. He has been invited as speaker for various nursing organizations including ANPD and Sigma. Dr. Tariga also serves on the executive boards of PNA New England, Society of Internationally Educated Nurses in North America, and the National Consortium of Academic Nurse Educators. He was recently admitted as a Fellow to the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Dr. Tariga is currently the director of clinical education and development at InsightGlobal Health and an adjunct faculty at Salem University’s School of Nursing.
