Ambra Starr, RN, BSN
Director of Nurse Education, Peterson Health
Ambra Starr, RN, BSN, has been a nurse for almost 27 years, and for her sake, please believe that has to mean she started her career when she was 12 because she likes that math better. She began her career in neuro ICU and has worked in ICUs, the OR, the cardiovascular OR, ED, and pre-op and recovery. Starr earned her BSN from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
After swearing she would never do education or administration, Starr has been in nursing education in nursing administration at Peterson Health for the last 12 years. Her official title is director of nurse education, which includes leading a team of one organizational nurse educator and six unit-based educators. The team believes that education should be interactive, creative, fun and find the sticky parts of the brain as often as possible. The nursing education team leads new nurse orientation – running several transition-to-practice programs, working with schools of nursing, coordination of all education and competency for nursing, as well as organizational-level development and education as well. She also occasionally guest lectures for local universities. In her role as director, Starr was responsible for designing the mentoring programs in the division of nursing that are actively practiced today – and leads several of them through the transition-to-practice programs.
While her passion is nursing, her heart and love belong to her amazing family which includes her wife, Sam, and their 14-year-old daughter, Kinley, who ensures all free time is taken up with dance, theater and what is a now-blossoming modeling career (much to their chagrin).
