At the heart of who I am and what I strive to do is to connect with others in ways that demonstrate compassion, empathy, authenticity, and selfless intentions toward their personal and professional growth and well-being. Amy Milner,  DNP, RN, NPD-BC, NE-BC

Why do you want to serve in this position on the ANPD Board of Directors?

I am passionate about nursing and nursing professional development. I desire to grow and expand the value and influence of nurses and the nursing profession at a national level. I have a special interest in developing the nursing pipeline in healthcare and believe that as NPD practitioners, we play a pivotal role in helping to promote nursing and shape the future of the nursing profession. Tremendous opportunities exist to expand and diversify the nursing field. ANPD provides NPD practitioners and specialists with tremendous resources and growth opportunities. ANPD provides strategic networking opportunities so nurses can grow and advance in their personal and career goals. ANPD colleagues have been an invaluable resource for me personally. In addition, the evolving healthcare landscape requires nursing leaders to be forward-thinking and assertive in promoting health, and eager to articulate their voices for optimal healthcare for patients in health care delivery systems. I seek to play a larger role in helping develop strong nursing leaders as well as in providing the necessary tools for future NPD practitioners and specialists.

What will you contribute to the Board of Directors that will benefit ANPD members and NPD practice?

I firmly believe that evidence-based practice and scientific inquiry should guide all that we do in nursing professional development. I have 28 years of experience as a nurse and twenty plus years of experience in nursing professional development and believe that if chosen for this position, I will contribute a unique skill set and background combined with a passion for nursing and commitment to positively impact ANPD's mission to advance quality health care by defining and promoting nursing professional practice. I have worked in several large health systems in different roles and currently work in a medium sized organization and feel as though my experience in different roles and two states brings a unique skill set. For many years as an NPD specialist, I worked in areas of onboarding and orientation, preceptor development, and later as a nurse residency coordinator at a large academic health system. In 2020, when I felt somewhat out of touch with bedside nursing, I completed an RN refresher program and took a prn position as a staff nurse at a Magnet® facility to help ensure I was in touch with the voice of the clinical nurse. Upon relocation to another state, I worked as a Nursing Practice Coordinator reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer of a large academic health system where my focus was on quality, nurse sensitive indicators, and nurse retention. For the past 18 months, I have worked with Magnet® and am leading my hospital’s fourth ANCC Magnet® designation and helping develop the Professional Governance structure at my organization to ensure nurses are empowered and using data and resources to drive patient outcomes. I have previous experience including serving as President of the ANPD Cardinal Affiliate in North Carolina, serving on the ANPD Innovation Committee, and presenting at previous ANPD conventions.

If you were chosen to serve on the Board of Directors, in one sentence what makes you an outstanding candidate?

My passion for nursing is contagious! Being a nurse is an honor, and working in patient care delivers great intrinsic rewards. Further, I love to engage with people and share ideas. Serving with ANPD allows me to share my passion for nursing with others in a more direct way. In addition, I believe that I bring the necessary skill set to contribute to developing the nursing workforce of NPD practitioners and specialists. Despite the challenges of ever-expanding technology, ongoing workplace violence, and chronic nursing shortages (leading to burnout), the demand for nurses continues to grow. I share ANPD’s commitment to meeting the needs of the evolving healthcare landscape – which also includes promoting nursing diversity to address the healthcare needs of a diverse population. If selected, I want to grow and strengthen the value of the nursing profession, and I want to share this passion and vision with others. I am not afraid to take risks, and know that if selected, I would give this opportunity the energy and enthusiasm that it deserves.

As I seek a second term on the ANPD Board of Directors, I bring a unique blend of strategic leadership, operational excellence, and scholarly engagement that directly benefits both ANPD members and the broader NPD community. My commitment to scholarly inquiry continues to shape my leadership. I’ve contributed to national publications and have presented at international conferences such as Sigma’s International Congress. In my second term, I will continue to champion initiatives that elevate NPD practice, support member engagement, and ensure ANPD remains a leader in professional development. I am committed to being a collaborative, data-driven, and visionary voice on the Board.
