*This event is hosted by the Organization of Healthcare Educators (OHE) ANPD Affiliate.
Using a combination of research, storytelling, and engaging activities the speakers aim to motivate individuals to create a more inclusive and equitable environment in their institutions. Knowing that shame and blame demotivates participants, instead the speakers will rely on research of how bias leads to distinctive disparities in various sectors, review how the brain gravitates toward biases in the first place, give participants an opportunity to reflect on bias in thier own lives, and then empower them with evidence-based strategies shown to be effective in disrupting the effects of bias on behavior.
Part 1 Objectives:
-Distinguish between implicit and explicit bias. -Identify how implicit bias impacts behavior, policy and outcomes. -Identify how implicit bias affects the relationship between healthcare professionals and their patients and between educators and their students. -Assess and identify your own biases.
