Implementation of Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education by July 1, 2022
By Jillian A. Russell, MSN, RN, NPD-BC
In December 2020, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME, n.d.) replaced the Standards for Commercial Support: Standards to Ensure Independence in CME Activities with the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is one of seven accrediting bodies that have adopted these Standards, to replace the Content Integrity Standards for Industry Support in Continuing Nursing Educational Activities (Moulton et al., 2022). This adoption reflects interprofessional collaboration and optimal content integrity in the education space.
ANCC accredited organizations must implement these new Standards by July 1, 2022 (ANCC, 2020).
Explore each standard in detail here.
