Nurses in Continuing Education (NICE) members offer a network of support, innovation, and education—leading and partnering to shape the future of health care education. Members of the NICE group represent healthcare facilities in Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts. Our mission is aligned with the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practice Model to advance the specialty of NPD for the enhancement of quality care outcomes.
Our group purpose includes:
- Sharing ideas, research, and resources through networking
- Participating in and reviewing continuing education offerings relative to professional development practice
- Promoting projects and programs of mutual benefit to the membership
- Establishing and sustaining a mechanism for mentorship of new professional development practitioners
NICE members meet five times per year for half-day sessions at various member-host facilities. Members network, attend webinars, and present on topics important to current healthcare education trends. Pictured below is a small group exploring an exercise developed by a couple of our members for an NPD-themed Escape Room. This offering proved to be a beneficial and innovative teaching methodology to communicate, collaborate, and learn together.
The sessions typically include a meet and greet with coffee and lite breakfast followed by scheduled agenda items. The meetings provide an active networking system to share best practices and upcoming event information of interest. Members have the option to call in to the recurring meetings to support participation from a distance.
In an effort to support and mentor our newest educators and professional development practitioners, members invite graduate students to join our meetings and learn about ANPD through our NICE group. Our webpage includes a wealth of information, including upcoming events, helpful links, and an application to join our affiliate.
Looking ahead, our affiliate is planning to change its name to Southeastern Massachusetts Nurses in Professional Development. We strive to be more inclusive through our name change and recruiting efforts, supporting diversity and a just culture for our group and the nursing profession. As we continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19 in each of our practice areas, the need for frontline education persists. We will continue to create, collaborate, and motivate, providing each other with the support needed to maintain the standards of practice for nurses in professional development.
