Target Audience: RNs: NPD Specialists, Staff Development, Nurse Educators
Description: This presentation focuses on challenges faced by NPD specialists in their role of integrating new Clinical Nurses into the Professional Nurse Practice role. Due to constant changes in patient and system complexity, analysis and responses to these challenges must be frequently up-dated. Specific challenges to be discussed are: 1) from the part-task, industrial delivery model to holistic, professional nursing practice; 2) transition and integration stages of professional socialization; and 3) impact of the 20th Century need to transition from the Newtonian approach to Complex Adaptive Systems to meet the challenges of clinical nurse and NPD specialist roles.
Outcome: This session will enable the learner to: identify strategies to promote professional socialization of newly licensed nurses.
